Greg Kyng is an upcoming artist right here in Atlanta. He has a new single " Show Me " that is doing numbers on the chart. His newly released official video for his single already has over 25k streams. Below he discusses life coming up, what's next for him and more.
Tell me in a few words, who you are. How would you describe
yourself in a short story.
My name is Greg Kyng, I'm a rapper, singer, and songwriter from
Atlanta, GA. My music consists of different musical elements,
because I refuse to be a one dimensional artist.
• What’s your stage name and how did you come up with it?
My stage name is Greg Kyng, Greg is apart of my middle name which
is Gregory, while kyng is taken from my fathers last name.
• What got you into music?
A Childhood friend got me into making music, the same friend who
would eventually become my producer who goes by the name of The
Alumni.
• What was life like growing up?
I was a loner growing up, I could be social at times, though a lot of
times I would prefer to go solo and do my own thing. I had a bad
temper growing up, and that got me into a lot of trouble. The thing
that calmed me was music, it was definitely the therapy I needed and
helped me get through life.
• Who is your inspiration? What keeps you going to get up daily and
put effort into your music career?
What keeps me going is the feeling that I haven't given everything I
got. I feel like there's more for me to do. I'm just not satisfied where
I'm at right now, and until I reach that point I will never stop.
• What is your creative process like? What is the meaning behind
your current single?
My creative process starts with me playing the beat, after that I start
to mumble a bit and get a feel for the beat. After I get the feel and
rhythm I start writing the song out, I usually type it on my phone,
though I'm starting to write more music with a pen and pad.
The meaning for the current single show me, is that I wanted to make
a song that would get the people moving, a smooth club joint was the
mission. According to the feedback that I have been getting, the
mission was a success.
• What is the name of the current single/ep/album that you are
pushing? Do you prefer people to buy it or stream? And why?
The name of the single is called Show Me, and I would prefer people
to buy it then stream it. The reason being is because I plan on
charting on the billboard this year.
• With the industry changing so much, would you stay indie or sign
to a label? Why and why not?
I would prefer to sign a major deal after I gain some leverage, as
nowadays there are so many stories of artists signing bad deals who
didn't have any leverage to help get them.
• Do you feel like the music industry has went down since the
pandemic? Why or why not? Where you affected by the pandemic
with music or everyday life?
The industry has definitely took a hit, mainly when it comes to major
touring, which is an area where a lot of artists make a good amount of
their money. The pandemic affected me to a degree, as the gyms
were all closed and I had to resort to working out at home for awhile.
• If you were give a chance to sit down and have a business dinner
with a celebrity who would it be and why?
It would be Kanye West, the man is a musical genius point blank. I
would like to pick his brain and absorb some knowledge from him.
• How do you balance everyday life tied into your music career?
I balance it by having a set schedule everyday of when to focus on
music, though I have went off schedule a few times, but for the most
part I have good with keeping up with it.
• Tell me about your most memorable moment in your career?
Currently the most memorable moment in my career, would be
seeing a 100,000 streams on a song, that song would be Way Up. As
of right now its sitting at 152,000 streams on Spotify.
• What style of music do you prefer to make? Would you ever try
a different lane?
I prefer to make more motivational music, though I have tried different
lanes, and I'm starting to see more success switching it up every now
and then.
• Do you have a celebrity crush?
Ajiona Alexus
• Is there anyone who you would collab with right now?
It would be Drake, specially Nothing Was the Same Era Drake lol
• Who is the producer and engineer behind your music?
The Alumni
• What are you currently working on and what is next for you?
I am currently working on my next project called Life & Times of
Grizzy Kang 2, I plan on having a better rollout for it then the first
installment.
• When it comes to fashion, whats your dressing style ?
I don't have one particular style, If it looks good then I'm wearing it.
• What is your creative process like and who inspired you to make
music?
My creative process starts with me playing the beat, after that I start
to mumble and absorb the beat, after that I start the writing phase.
The people who inspired me to make music is 2pac, T.I. and my
producer The Alumni.
• If you could open up for one celebrity who would it be and why?
I would say Drake, my style of music is similar to his.
• Any funny stories or an embarrassing moments you want to share
with our readers?
